Wix vs Squarespace, for trades

Wix vs Squarespace for tradesmen (UK, 2026)

By Craig Wilson · Updated 25 Oct 2026 · 6 min read

Wix vs Squarespace for tradesmen in the UK is close on price: Wix Light is £9 a month and Squarespace Basic £12, both paid yearly plus 20% VAT (October 2026). Wix offers phone callbacks and Squarespace stronger templates; both leave the building to you. A third option is a site built for you: Scale Start, £45 a month, £0 upfront.

The short answer

Pick Wix if you want the cheapest year and a phone number to ring when you get stuck. Pick Squarespace if your work photographs well and you care how the site looks. Pick neither if you know the site would sit half-built for months: in that case a done-for-you plan is the cheaper option in practice, even at a higher monthly price.

Price: the plans a trade would use

A trade website needs a custom domain, a few service pages, a gallery and a contact form. That is Wix Light or Core, or Squarespace Basic or Core. Neither platform's higher plans add much for a business that takes enquiries rather than online orders.

PlanPaid yearly (per month)Paid monthlyA year, paid yearly, with 20% VAT
Wix Light£9£11.50£129.60
Wix Core£16£19£230.40
Squarespace Basic£12£16£172.80
Squarespace Core£17£24£244.80

Wix: wix.com/plans showed us US dollar reference prices rather than pounds when we checked on 25 October 2026, so the GBP figures are from two independent UK guides: expertsure.com's Wix pricing guide (verified against Wix's UK page, July 2026; also the source for the monthly-billing column) and The Independent's Wix vs Hostinger review (15 October 2026). Both match the GBP prices we read on wix.com/plans on 27 September 2026. Wix states its prices exclude tax. Squarespace: squarespace.com/pricing, Basic and Core checked 27 September 2026, prices before VAT; hirethecreatives.com reports that the UK page now shows VAT-inclusive figures (£14.40 a month for Basic paid yearly, checked 22 October 2026), which is the same price with VAT added. All checked October 2026. The VAT column assumes the UK standard rate.

Both platforms include a free domain for the first year on yearly plans. Wix has a free plan, but it runs on a wixsite.com address with Wix adverts, so it is not one to put on a van. Squarespace has a 14-day free trial instead. Wix offers a 14-day money-back guarantee on paid plans.

Support: who answers when the site breaks

This is the biggest practical difference for a trade. Wix's Help Center says you can ask for a callback from its Customer Care team, available 24/7 in English, as well as chat and email. Squarespace's Help Center says plainly that it does not offer phone support: you get email around the clock and live chat on weekdays (4am to 8pm US Eastern time, roughly 9am to 1am in the UK).

Squarespace also says its support team can't give SEO strategy advice. Wix doesn't promise that either. On both, getting found locally is your job.

Where Wix wins

Wix wins on the lowest year and on support. Light is the cheapest paid plan here at £129.60 for the year with VAT, and the 24/7 English callback means a real person when the contact form stops sending. The drag-and-drop editor lets you put anything anywhere, which suits trades who like to tinker.

Where Squarespace wins

Squarespace wins on looks. Its templates are tighter, so it is harder to make a messy page, and big photos of finished kitchens, gardens or roofs look good with little effort.

The third option: a site built for you

Wix and Squarespace both hand you the tools. You still write every page, pick and crop the photos, set up local SEO and keep your Google Business Profile active. Scale Start is £45 a month with £0 upfront and no VAT, on a 12-month minimum term, then month to month, and we do that work. Year one is £540, against about £215 on Wix Light or £258 on Squarespace Basic once a business email is added. The full year-one sums are on our Wix cost and Squarespace cost pages, and both plans are on our pricing page.

What "built for you" means depends on the trade. Our websites for roofers lead with emergency repairs and the areas covered, and our websites for landscapers lead with the finished gardens. The fair way to decide

Count the evenings as well as the pounds. If you will genuinely build the site and keep it up to date, Wix or Squarespace is good value and the choice between them comes down to phone support or looks. If you won't, the cheapest plan is the one that never goes live.

In summary

Wix vs Squarespace for UK tradesmen is close on price: Wix Light is £9 a month and Squarespace Basic £12, paid yearly plus VAT. Wix offers 24/7 phone callbacks in English and Squarespace has no phone support but better-looking templates. Both leave the building and local SEO to you. If you want the site built and kept found, Scale Start is £45 a month, £0 upfront, on a 12-month minimum term.

Frequently asked questions

Is Wix or Squarespace better for a tradesman?

+

Wix suits a hands-on tradesman on a tight budget who wants phone support: Light is £9 a month paid yearly, plus VAT, and Wix offers 24/7 callbacks in English. Squarespace suits a visual trade with strong photos: Basic is £12 a month paid yearly, plus VAT, with more polished templates but no phone support. Both leave the building and local SEO to you.

Which is cheaper in the UK, Wix or Squarespace?

+

Wix, by a little. Wix Light is £9 a month paid yearly (£129.60 a year with 20% VAT) and Squarespace Basic is £12 (£172.80 with VAT), as of October 2026. Paying monthly, Wix Light is £11.50 and Squarespace Basic £16, before VAT.

Does Squarespace have phone support?

+

No. Squarespace's Help Center says it doesn't offer phone support. You can email at any time, use live chat on weekdays, or message on Facebook Messenger or X. Wix offers callbacks from its Customer Care team, 24/7 in English.

Can I move my site from Wix to Squarespace later?

+

Not directly. Wix sites have to stay on Wix's servers, so moving means rebuilding on Squarespace. You keep your domain, words and photos. Going the other way, Squarespace only exports some content, mainly blog posts and basic pages.

Do Wix and Squarespace prices include VAT?

+

Wix states its prices exclude tax, so a UK trade that isn't VAT-registered pays 20% on top. Squarespace Basic is £12 a month paid yearly before VAT, or £14.40 with it, and its UK pricing page has been reported to show the VAT-inclusive figure. Either way you pay the VAT. Scalesites prices have no VAT to add.

Is there a contract with Scalesites?

+

Yes. Scale Start (£45 a month) and Scale Up (£79 a month) run on a 12-month minimum term, then month to month. That is what lets us build the site with nothing to pay upfront. You see a free preview before you pay anything.
